use a design library with figma make

This activity was designed as the introduction for a Figma Make Vibe Coding workshop I hosted in partnership with Friends of Figma NYC in Fall 2025.

Set up the design library

For this exercise, you can either use your own design system or use your own library.

  1. If you are using the Figma Simple Design System. Make sure to duplicate the file into a paid workspace first.

  2. Cmd K or / opens up the actions menu. Search for Libraries and press Return.

  3. Click Publish to publish your design library.

  4. If there are changes, you will need to press Publish first before exporting to Figma Make.

  5. If there are no changes, click on Export to Figma Make. This process will take a few minutes.

  6. When it’s done, you will see this.

Start your project

  1. Create a new Figma Make.

  2. In the chat box, click the library icon 📖 and select the library you want to use.

  3. Now, everything that you make in this Figma Make project will use your design library!

Put a link to an existing design that uses your design system.
